Why European Flax Linen Breathes Better
The science behind the fibre that keeps you cool through an Australian summer — and softens with every wash.
By Aussie Tex Editorial · 30 Oct 2026
Linen is one of the oldest textiles in the world, and still one of the most comfortable to wear in the heat.
A hollow fibre that moves air
Flax fibres are naturally hollow. Air moves through the weave, and moisture is drawn away from the skin and released quickly — linen can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture before it feels damp.
Grown with less water
European flax is largely rain-fed. It needs far less irrigation than cotton and almost no pesticides, which is why we source the majority of our linen from growers in Normandy and Belgium.
Good linen is a little crisp on the first wear and beautifully soft by the tenth.
Embrace the texture
The gentle slubs and creases are part of linen's character. We garment-wash most of our linen pieces so they arrive already relaxed and ready to wear.
