How to Care for Merino Wool
Wash less, air more: simple habits that keep fine merino soft and pill-free.
By Aussie Tex Editorial · 17 Oct 2026
Merino is naturally odour resistant, which means it needs washing far less often than you might think.
Air it out
After wearing, hang your knit somewhere airy overnight. Most of the time that is all it needs.
Wash cool and gentle
When it is time, hand wash or use a wool cycle at 30°C with a wool-specific detergent. Never use fabric softener.
Dry flat
Roll the garment in a towel to remove water, then dry flat in the shade. Hanging wet knitwear stretches it out of shape.
Store folded
Fold knitwear rather than hanging it, and keep it with cedar blocks during the warmer months.
